Life Saving Stat: If your car is submerged in water, your chances of escaping from the automobile are increased by wearing a safety belt.

Buckle Up for a Safer Nebraska!!

Click It - Don't Risk It! is a campaign to increase safety belt usage in Nebraska to 91%, brought to you by the Nebraska Coalition to Save Lives Through Safety Belt Usage, and funded by the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety. The Click It staff is located at the National Safety Council, Nebraska.

Since the inception of the Click It Campaign in February 2002, Nebraska increased its safety belt usage from 69% to a high of 85% in 2009. In the last year, that rate slid to 79%, partially due to a change in how numbers were derived. Regardless, the number remains less than optimal.

The Nebraska Coalition to Save Lives Through Safety Belt Usage has grown to over 600 members and counting. This Coalition is made up of law enforcement officers, community health officials, educational faculty, business organizations and community safety advocates. Coalition members believe in safety belt usage and spread that attitude to increase safety belt usage. If you are not a Coalition member and believe in safety belt usage, join the Coalition now. Coalition members receive an occasional e-newsletter with information about what's happening with safety belts across the state.

Buckle up! Save Lives!

The fact is that a safety belt is the single best personal protection you can have in a crash.

While only about 80% of Nebraskans buckle up, 70% of crash fatalities were not buckled. Check out these Nebraska Safety Belt Facts

What about airbags?

Airbags are great, but the belt is what holds an occupant in place for the bag to be effective. Because bags inflate very quickly and powerfully, they can actually inflict damage if the occupant is not positioned correctly to receive the airbag's protection. Airbag demonstration.
